Broken Shells Under Water

This was the first painting I did using mylar. It was inspired by a scene I saw off the docks of Port Townsend, Washington: bits of broken blue mussels and other shells sparkling underneath translucent ribbons of green algae in the water. The subject— more abstract than what I usually paint— was perfect for my first mylar experiment; I was able to work very loosely, painting mostly from memory.
