By-the-Wind Sailor

This is an older painting, but still one of my favorites. The evening before I came upon this scene, Stinson Beach had just been hit by a strong storm. The next morning, the beach was littered with what looked like transparent leaves rimmed in a vibrant cobalt blue. I later learned that these “leaves” were actually colonies of surface-floating jelly fish that had been blown ashore.
